Surf’s Up for Hawaiian Kona Coffee from the “Parry Estate”

| November 14, 2008

post-2008-11-11_01Following our last report on Kona Coffee from the Parry Estate, we are now very pleased to inform that the early crop lots are ready to ship from Hawaii’s main Island to mainland USA/Oakland, CA.

The harvest is in fact about 8 weeks late. This has had no impact on the quality for us. As a matter of fact, it helped tremendously as we finished the complete installation and tests of our new Pinhalense mill, just in time for the first mature fruits harvested this season.

post-2008-11-11_02Pinhalense engineers spent 50 days at the Estate last summer, securing the ideal installation of the latest generation milling equipment with cutting edge technology aimed at producing the highest quality of green coffee in Kona.

The main reason for the late harvest in Kona was the prolonged rainy season, lower temperatures and rain, delayed maturation and harvest procedures.

post-2008-11-11_04The pictures aside show our new pulping, milling, drying and hulling facilities. The Parry Estate is one of the very few plantations with own and complete coffee preparation equipment on own property.

Our pulping and milling capacity surpasses the daily income of harvested fruit from the Estate’s fields. This assures that all coffees are treated within the same day they came in from the fields, thus avoiding any unwanted fermentation.

post-2008-11-11_05Our pre drying terraces are covered protecting the pergaminio coffees from rain and over heating. The mechanical dryers provide ideal and controlled finish to the process. Our coffee is absolutely uniform in color and humidity percentage.

At the Estate, we are expecting further rains for this season. This will keep the whole Kona Coffee community busy in protecting the current crop’s quality as excess humidity, fermentation and even mold may become a serious issue.

post-2008-11-11_03The Parry Estate already supplies Extra Fancy Kona Coffee to a few demanding clients in Asia, Europe and North America. Now, as our volume is expanding, new availability can be offered.

Our first lots of new crop Estate coffees with vibrant floral and citric notes, excellent body and fine uniform cup, are now available. Samples of our Extra Fancy screen 18 and up can be sent to you upon request. We also have Peaberries and Prime screen 17. Please inform which qualities you are interested in receiving.

Best regards,
Christian Wolthers
