Ugandan Coffees Cupping Experience
Last week right after World of Coffee Copenhagen, I had the honour to cup among some powerful women in the Embassy of Uganda in Denmark.
Ambassador H.E. Margaret M. Otteskov and Ambassador H.E. Signe Winding Albjerg together with UCDA-Uganda Coffee Development Authority, united the finest of Ugandan coffees in a very educational cupping experience.
Interesting facts:
-Ugandas producers robusta and arabica, coffee accounts for 20% of the export earnings.
-In the last 5 years coffee production in Uganda went from 3 million to 8 million bags, exports at 6.08 million bags.
-Uganda is the 2nd African coffee producers and largest African exporter.
-85% of Uganda’s coffee production is by smallholder farmers.
Ugandan Coffees:
Okoro – characterized by strong body, medium acidity.
Kisoro – unique floral flavor
Bugisu – fine floral taste characteristic of East African Arabica. High land natural robusta.
Drugar – washed robusta.
More information available upon request.
Thank you to my friend Ronnie Sekitto and Ambassador Margaret M. Otteskov for this beautiful invite.
Congratulations Uganda, impressive qualities and growth.
Best Regards to all.
