Brazil – Cerrado Sao Gotardo COOCACER IV Symposium, OCT/15, 2014
COOCACER has held with grandiose success its 4th green coffee Symposium with the presence of over 800 regional producers.
The majority of the Cerrado Area potential 6 million bags producers attended to learn about Certification programs and market tendencies.
4 C’s, UTZ, RFA and Organic certification leaders made presentations within many other presenters.
Christian Wolthers spoke about the current market demand for certified coffees and about green coffee availability on the short term.
The main concerns were in fact about the drought and when rains for the season would resume.
Since then, we have seen the first rain-front reach the Arabica coffee Belt this past weekend.
Rains have not been enough but have certainly brought relief to the plantations as temperatures have fallen and the last flowerings have opened in the entire Belt.
Now, another 5 to 7 days of dry and warmer weather are expected, hope for further rain-fronts starting next week is in everyone’s mind.
The situation is in fact critical as this rain-front arrived in the very last moment, maybe beyond.
90% of the coffee field irrigation pumps have been sealed by environmental authorities as creeks, rivers lakes and dams are at 30 days from reaching the floor.
Plantations and their fruits should be able to resist the coming weeks and further develop in case rains return on a sequential and better than thin pattern,.
The faith of the water resources that supply populations is a harder call, these will need torrential rains for the season in order to avoid rationing of most cities and towns within the entire South East Brazil.
CBW will be in the South of Minas and thru to the Cerrado during the entire next week again, further reports will follow.
